چکیده

In this paper, we present an approach toward pedestrian detection and tracking from infrared imagery using joint shape and appearance cues. A layered representation is first introduced and a generalized expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm is developed to separate infrared images into background (still) and foreground (moving) layers regardless of camera panning. In the two-pass scheme of detecting pedestrians from the foreground layer: shape cue is first used to eliminate non-pedestrian moving objects and then appearance cue helps to locate the exact position of pedestrians. Templates with varying sizes are sequentially applied to detect pedestrians at multiple scales to accommodate different camera distances. To facilitate the task of pedestrian tracking, we formulate the problem of shot segmentation and present a graph matching-based tracking algorithm that jointly exploits the shape, appearance and distance information. Experimental results with both OSU Infrared Image Database and WVU Infrared Video Database are reported to demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of our algorithm. 2006 Elsevier Inc. Pedestrian Detection and Tracking from Low-Resolution Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Thermal Imagery

Driven by the prominent thermal signature of humans and following the growing availability of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), more and more research efforts have been focusing on the detection and tracking of pedestrians using thermal infrared images recorded from UAVs. However, pedestrian detection and tracking from the thermal images obtained from UAVs pose many challenges due to the low-res...

A Fast Stereo-based System for Detecting and Tracking Pedestrians from a Moving Vehicle

In this paper we describe a fully integrated system for detecting, localizing, and tracking pedestrians from a moving vehicle. The system can reliably detect upright pedestrians to a range of 40 m in lightly cluttered urban environments. The system uses range data from stereo vision to segment the scene into regions of interest, from which shape features are extracted and used to classify pedes...

Robust pedestrian detection in thermal infrared imagery using a shape distribution histogram feature and modified sparse representation classification

In this paper, a robust approach using a shape distribution histogram (SDH) feature and modified sparse representation classification (MSRC) for pedestrian detection in thermal infrared imagery is proposed. In this framework, the candidate regions that are more likely to contain the pedestrians are first detected based on the Contour Saliency Map. Then distances between random points on the thi...

Real Time Pedestrian Tracking using Thermal Infrared Imagery

In the study, a real time pedestrian tracking algortithm is presented using thermal infrared imagery. It makes use of the characteristics of pedestrian body regions in infrared images, which is based on a particle filter framework. The method constructs the regions of interest's (ROI) histogram representation in an intensity-distance projection space model, so as to hurdle the disadvantage of i...

Pedestrian Detection in Infrared Outdoor Images Based on Atmospheric Situation Estimation

Observation in absolute darkness and daytime under every atmospheric situation is one of the advantages of thermal imaging systems. In spite of increasing trend of using these systems, there are still lots of difficulties in analysing thermal images due to the variable features of pedestrians and atmospheric situations. In this paper an efficient method is proposed for detecting pedestrians in ...
